Harakiri Mosh
no! I aint talking about a ninja that is going to commit suicide…
For all of you who dont know, Harakiri Mosh is a production in the Cebu music Scene!.. w00t!.. and this month, they are celebrating their Second Year anniversary. You heard it right, they’re turning 2! You might ask yourself, “How come I have not heard of them?!”.. Well kid, it could be because you were too busy listening to Show bands or better yet, you were too busy getting laid!.. lolx.. If you have not heard of them, it’s now time for you to do so..
Here’s a piece of an Email Interview done by the EKSENA.net crew to the two ladies(Shak and Mirza) behind the production:
For us uninformed, could you please tell us a short background about Harakiri Mosh?
Shak: HarakiriMosh was never planned. That’s all we ever tell people. ‘Harakiri’ was meant to be a clothing line name (by cheryl and i) and ‘mosh’ was an earlier production (by mirza’s brother). One night, we went out with some friends in earlier bands that used to play for mosh and so we tried putting up a gig at handuraw.
How long have you been doing this and how’s the scene now compared to when you first started?
Roughly 2 years. Nothing dramatic. Though now, the audience and even the bands got a lot younger. I see 13, 14, 15 year-olds at shows . Plus they appreciate original material by the local bands now. And yeah, kids’ musical tastes went up a notch.
What is your biggest challenge in organizing gigs?
For me, venues. I can say we have been blessed coz they keep landing on our laps. But the fear of running out of places to play in is always there. Not many people know that harakirimosh is mostly a d.i.y. Production. We have no sponsors other than our own piggy banks and the venues’ ‘break even’ way of handling ticket sales. D.i.y. Usually means zero moolah. Zero moolah=struggle.
Do you consider the “male dominated” scene a problem or a challenge?
What about the “male dominated” world? Haha. Being female all our lives, we’re pretty much used to it. In the scene though, there’s this stigma of being a groupie or being in it just to hook up with guys in bands (which, unfortunately for some, is true). It’s unusual to see girls put up rock shows and such just to support local talents. It’s even unheard of, in other places, but we did it here and it’s because of music and not of any underlying motive or whatnot.
For those about to rock and then start their own production, what 3 main advises you can share to them?
Know your role. Putting up a production is not all roses. It takes a lot of dedication and sacrifice too.
Be responsible and level-headed. Always think about the actions you are going to take and the words you are going to say. Respect=give it and gain it.
Have fun. Bands will be late, you will run short of money, people will be a-holes, venue owners/managers will be bigger a-holes, your parents will hate you (yea, it happens a lot) but at the end of the day, a positive attitude will get you through all of that bad vibe.

Luciano Pavarotti… DEAD!
Luciano Pavarotti, opera’s biggest superstar of the late 20th century, died Thursday. He was 71. He was the son of a singing baker and became the king of the high C’s.
Pavarotti, who had been diagnosed last year with pancreatic cancer, died at his home in his native Modena at 5 a.m., his manager told The Associated Press in an e-mailed statement. His wife, Nicoletta, four daughters and sister were among those at his side, manager Terri Robson said.
Pavarotti’s charismatic persona and ebullient showmanship but most of all his creamy and powerful voice made him the most celebrated tenor since the great Enrico Caruso and one of the few opera singers to win crossover fame as a popular superstar.
RIP!

PUNK Goes….
Punk Goes… is a series of compilation albums released by Fearless Records in which various punk and pop-punk bands perform punk-style covers of famous songs from other genres or time-periods. The one deviation from this theme is on Punk Goes Acoustic and Punk Goes Acoustic 2 in which punk rock bands recorded acoustic versions of their own songs rather than punk rock versions of other band’s songs.
I am a big fan of Punk.. and when i say big… I mean it.. lolx.. and just hearing some songs in the Compilation makes you always sing your woah woah woah’s and oi oi oi!…
Though the letdown in some of the albums in the Compilation is that some bands are not really “PUNK”.. instead, they fall under the Emo/Post Hardcore Genre..
Here’s the list of the Compilation part of the Punk Goes… with release dates… eheh
* Punk Goes Metal (August 1, 2000)
* Punk Goes Pop (April 3, 2002)
* Punk Goes Acoustic (October 21, 2003)
* Punk Goes 80’s (June 7, 2005)
* Punk Goes ’90s (May 9, 2006)
* Punk Goes Acoustic 2 (May 8, 2007)
well.. one of my favorites is The Ataris version of I Remember You in Punk Goes Metal. (Originally done by Skid Row). The song kicks ass!… so as The Ataris..
I already have a copy of the Punk Goes Acoustic 1.. with artists like Finch, Taking Back Sunday, The Starting Line, Thursday and many others.. and Im simply LOVING IT!
will be downloading the other albums… soon.. ![]()
