Speak. these words will forever
Sail these streets of old.
Make these words your own.
Never again
Never to fall.
Daloy Ng Kamalayan
Makinig sa pahiwatig ng
Makatang galing sa modernong paraan.
Hanapin ang sariling ligaw
Sa makitid na daan at pagtanaw.
Ang pagmamalay wag na wag pabayaan
Nang makabangon ang perlas ng silanganan.
Isip mo at isip ko
Ginintuang sandata ng pagbabago
Once you hear these lyrics, you stop and take heed. Dicta License [Literally ‘Dicta License’ means ‘License to Speak’.], Dicta License is a Filipino band formed December 1999, whose music is a fusion of rock, rap, and grunge. This all-Atenean band consists of Pochoy Labog on vocals, Bryan Makasiar on drums, Kelley Mangahas on bass, and Boogie Romero on guitars. Mangahas and Romero are also part of another band, Kjwan.
Socio-politically inspired, philisophically-driven and Philippine-centered that’s how I and everybody else would define Dicta’s music and lyrics. Somewhat reminiscent to Rage Against The Machine fronted by Zach Dela Rocha though Pochoy doesn’t have tattoos and dreads. Everytime they perform, just listen to every letters Pochoy speaks and take heed, words like “What the fuck is position? the position you gain who the fuck is to blame? Now you all turn aktibista, for a leader-another agenda to gain, that political power, disrupting the national order, The Left and the Right are circling above and breaking the peace”
I’ve always been a big supporter of Dicta License but never really got the chance to see them perform live. Hearing their songs listening and reading every lyric just pierces through the subconcious, what if’s and what not’s. It’s philosiphical and politically-driven but not as fiesty as RATM but still as effective as every RATM song. It’s just sad to hear that they broke up last year. Dicta License’ songs aren’t meant to be impudent, but rather dare audiences to think about bringing a change to their surroundings, positively.
Understanding Dicta License’s songs may be similar to a paradox. Though sometimes, you can’t quite get the profoundness, you still get to appreciate the song. Truly, they have the license to speak - and if anyone ignorant of their sound gets a first hand notion of what they’re made of, then I’m pretty sure such ignorance would be vanquished with the band’s arousing lyrics and moving rhythms. And it doesn’t take a second listen to know that.
Sweet Scrutiny: Malu Fernandez “Blogging - a slacker’s job”
I was doing my usual daily bloghopping routine when I saw an interesting post about Malu Fernandez hating bloggers.
Malu Fernandez, in her Manila Standard Today column notoriously declared:
“But blogging, aside from Perez Hilton and the other big time bloggers (you know who you are) is for me a slacker job or a medium and pastime for lonely people to connect. Unless you’re in bloody Siberia or in a Gulag prison, try stepping outside your comfort zone and turn off the laptop or pc, you just might find some real live people to talk to instead of typing away in cyber space.”
AFAIK, I dont really have that much of a clue who Malu Fernandez is aside from she is a columnist who bashed OFWs.This is the sweetest thing about blogging, you can vent you what you feel and a majority of people will be able to read, ponder and comment on your posts. That is my real intention of blogging, being heard. Whoever said that “blogging” was a slacker’s job or a medium and pastime for lonely people to connect, should please try to grab a cup of coffee, put it some sugar or cream, stir it lightly and pretty please spill it to your face.

Demonoid is Back ONLINE!

Just came from a vacation leave from work and I immediately checked my mail for latest updates. Had to run through some old mails, personal messages from online buddies, messages from site sponsors, comments on the site, porn links and a very interesting email that got me really pumped up. What better news do you have aside from this:
Subject: Demonoid.com back online
Hello xxxxxxx,
We are pleased to inform you that Demonoid.com is finally back onlineYour account (’xxxxxxx’) is back and ready to be used again. If you have problems accessing it, please use the forgotten password page at http://www.demonoid.com/password_retrieval.php? ste=xxxxxxx@tambayanbox.org
We hope to see you soon!
- The Demonoid.com site staff*** You received this email because you registered an account at Demonoid.com
You won’t be receiving another notification from us, no action is needed on your part.
One word summarizes the mail, “SWEET-SICK-NASTY-DOWNLOADS”. After months of downtime, now demonoid is back. Well, I am not promoting piracy or whatever but just want to write that I got the mail that Demonoid is back online [NOT!].
However, the Web site may be back just the way that it previously was, however it won’t be accessible to folks in Canada (probably because of the CRIA). Besides, the welcome note doesn’t even hint at legal issues which could be binding in a case such as this. File sharers are likely to approach the fresh site with more caution than ever before.
All is set, LOCK-and-LEECH! [*evil laughs fill the whole room].
My Take: Arnel Pineda New Lead Singer of Journey
I know this is a late post since the “Arnel-Pineda-Journey’s-new-vocals” news came out. I have my reasons why it took me such amount of time to write about it. First, I was not born during Journey’s era. When I heard that Arnel is the new lead vocals for Journey, I was like, “Journey? Arnel? Oh OK!” .. “What band again?!”. No offense to the Journey fans, but I’m just 20 and I was born on the oh-so-poppy-Boyband era. Second, I was not feeling any hype at all with the news because I didn’t know who Arnel was, aside from his Filipino, and I didn’t know who Journey was until I heard their songs as I could hear my father sing their tunes but was not aware that it is a song by Journey, my bad! I know their songs, I just didn’t know that Journey played them, I suck at song titles and artists’ name but that wont make me incapable of giving my “review” for this matter.
I have not seen Journey perform live with Steve Perry or any other past vocalists that they had as they played in the 80’s - 90’s and that time I was just a little kid. I saw them perform on the Tube, yeah the Tube called YouTUBE!, and Steve Perry can really sing and knock those high notes out with ease. I had to watch the video as everybody was talking about the band and the new vocals. Ok so I had to check Arnel Pineda’s videos on the Tube too and right away you can tell that Arnel Pineda has talent like no other. He can belt those Journey songs as good as Perry — even better. There were a lot of vocalists that came after Perry [and I did watch their video and listened to every note belted, there was even 1 clip their that compared all the past vocals of Journey], but no one came near what talent and charisma
7 New Wonders of The World
I’ve made my vote for the New 7 Wonders of the World, though 2 of my votes were a little biased but those places would still qualify as “wonders” for me. All you need to have is an active email address which most of us have because the internet is our new home and an active email address is like the living room for internet lurkers like us. By the way, The Chocolate Hills and The Tubbataha Reef is currently ranked 8 and 9 respectively. Ok now, move your stiff little fingers and VOTE!
Here were my votes:
Your votes for your New 7 Wonders of Nature nominees have now been successfully counted.
- Chocolate Hills
- Tubbataha Reef, Reef
- Great Barrier Reef, Coral Reef
- Niagara Falls, Waterfall
- Grand Canyon, Canyon
- Cape of Good Hope
- Amazon River, River/Forest
Of course I voted for the Chocolate Hills and the Tubataha Reef, c’mon, I’m Filipino. I hate to play my biases but I would love to see those spots as the 1 or 2 of the new wonders of the World. If you have not voted yet, check this link out and vote here.
