June 28, 2008, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao wins by KO against tough Mexican opponent David Diaz in their fight dubbed as “Lethal Combination” held in the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

With an attendance of 8,326 watching at ringside, all of them witnessed the crowning of the new KING. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao captured Diaz’ WBC Lightweight Title via devastating left hook to the jaw that dropped Diaz face down to the canvass. Pacquiao added Diaz WBC Lightweight belt to his resume to become the first Asian to capture 4 World Titles in as many weight divisions.

It was Pacquaio’s show from the opening bell until he finally knocked Diaz face-first to the mat with a left to the jaw at 2:23 of the ninth round. It was incredible how Pacquiao’s speed and power was still evident even with the move up in weight. Pacquiao looked strong, fast and sharp. Now, he will be an addition to an already deep Lightweight Division if he decides to stay there.

Now, what’s next for Pacquiao? If he decides to stay in the Lightweight Division, will he be brave enough to fight the Nate Campbell-Joan Guzman fight winner? Or the Joel Casamayor-Juan Manuel Marquez fight winner? How about fight fast-rising, young and undefeated Lightweight Contender Amir Khan or Bobby Pacquiao’s latest conqueror Urbano Antillon? I hope Bob Arum gives Manny Pacquiao a fight that would not only generate $$ but also a fight that would further cement Pacquiao’s legacy.

Wherever he is heading next, most of us will be supporting the new King, even the NBA 2008 Champions Boston Celtics with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen (PacHaters are still allowed to join xD). All hail to David Diaz for courageously defending his belt and fighting Manny Pacquiao.

P.S. I am not a PacHug. But I am rooting for Pacquiao since I am a Filipino. Whoever Pacquaio fights next we will be watching. :) Some fight pictures are here.

Lethal Combination - Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao vs. David “Dangerous” Diaz

The biggest question that would be answered this weekend is “who hits harder out of the two southpaws?”. Dubbed as LETHAL COMBINATION, newly crowned WBC SuperFeatherweight Champ and Pound-for-Pound King Manny Pacquiao (46-3-1, 35 KOs) will once again try accomplish another feat as he tries to challenge current WBC Lightweight Champion David Diaz (34-1-1, 17 KOs). This will be the first time that “The Pacman” will be campaining at the Lightweights while this will be “Dangerous” David Diaz’ second defense to his crown which he successfully defended with a brawl against Legendary Erik “El Teribble” Morales (which is the same boxer that defeated the Pacman in their first outing but was defeated on the next two outings via TKO8 and TKO3).

To put my name in boxing history is something that is very important to me and to my country,” Pacquiao said with justifiable pride. Pacquiao will try to capture his 4th belt in 4 weight divisions and if he succeeds, he will be the first Asian to do so. The brawling southpaw with extraordinary speed and power, who collected belts in Flyweight, Super Bantamweight and Superfeatherweight will try to add Diaz’ belt to this collection, but Diaz is one tough cookie to crack. For one, Diaz started campaigning as a Welterweight (147lbs), 30lbs as much as the what Manny weighed when he started his career at 112lbs, so that means Diaz has a larger frame and carries the heavier punch. It would remain a question as to what will prevail in the upcoming event.

Speed and power will be Manny’s weapon in the coming event but the main problem is if Pacquaio’s power will still remain with the excess weight he is carrying and if that power will have the same effect on a heavier and wider body if Diaz, if not, those body shots that Manny will be throwing will just be absorbed by Diaz’ body. Also, will Pacquiao’s speed be the same with the excess weight? Diaz is carrying the power and the body of a welterweight, though it is not evident with only 17KOs in his record, this happened because he was up againtst bigger guys too, but now, he is a against a smaller guy and that power could prove to be one weapon that Diaz can use too.

I am not boxing expert but I will still give my prediction for the fight. If the fight will go past 8 rounds, it will be an advantage to David Diaz as he is accustomed to carrying the weight unlike Pacquiao, but if Pacquiao can get it going in early rounds, then it will be Pacquaio by TKO. Glue your sets this Sunday, June 29, 2008 (Philippine time GMT+8) for Lethal Combination - Manny Pacquaio vs. David Diaz.

Reading and Leeds Festival

On August 22-24 2008 will be Reading and Leeds Festival in England (well I’m not really from England but was just really interested with the said Event). he Reading and Leeds Festivals are a pair of annual music festivals that take place in Reading and Leeds in England and are run by Festival Republic. These 2 festivals usually happens on the bank holiday weekend in August (whic will fall on August 22-24, 2008). This is one of the oldest festivals in UK. Tickets for 2008 were released on 31 March at 6:45pm and sold out in record time, and the tickets made available via HMV sold out after just one hour.

As I was searching through the net for tickets for the said event, I stumbled upon Viagogo (the leading Ticker hub in Europe). When I saw the site, I was impressed with the lists of Concert/Sports & Art and Theatre Tickets. They’re selling concert tickets of some of my favorite bands like Death Cab for Cutie, New Found Glory, LostProphets, Funeral for a Friend, N.E.R.D, Thrice, The Killers, Taking Back Sunday and the Rage Agains the Machine (if some of you don’t know, they are doing some reunion tours/shows). Here’s the catch they are also selling tickets to some of the biggest festivals in the UK, they are selling Reading Festival Tickets, Leeds Festival Tickets and O2 Wireless Tickets. What more can you possibly ask for?

And here’s the video by the way.

Now everybody hates me, they want to see me behind bars, I’m so “emo” now, I want to run to the corner and weep, and slit my wrist with an EXCALIBUR! BRUTAL! The video aint that cruel, ti even goes beyond cuteness not cruelty. It was just an experiment to prove if a small, young kitten can swim, and indeed IT CAN SWIM! xD

Any comment on the video? It aint that bad right?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Retires!

Not that you care actually, but undefeated Welterweight Champ Floyd Mayweather retires from boxing undefeated. Mayweather, an Olympic bronze medalist who has won belts in five weight classes, made the abrupt announcement in a letter to select media members Friday. The 31-year-old WBC welterweight champ (39-0, 25 KOs) hasn’t fought since beating Ricky Hatton last December, but was widely expected to take on Oscar De La Hoya in September in a rematch of the richest fight in boxing history.

“This decision was not an easy one for me to make, as boxing is all I have done since I was a child,” said Mayweather, the son and nephew of three of the sport’s top trainers. “However, these past few years have been extremely difficult for me to find the desire and joy to continue in the sport.”

I just simply think that his retirement was kinda immature. Yes, Mayweather is an undefeated champ, who defeated mostly future “washed-out” Hall of Famers, known for his speed and defenses has not even fought some of the best on the weight division. He should at least fight the winner of the Cotto-Margarito fight before he retires. A fight that could really prove that he is indeed one of the best fighters the sport has ever had. Hopefully, he will come out of retirement soon as I still want to see him square off with the other great fighters the division has to offer. The welterweight division (light welter, welter and super welter) is one of the deepest divisions in boxing and he was fighting for the money, the some of the big catch of the sport resides in this division. If he can just wait for the Cotto-Margarito winner, challenge the winner, then retire after it, then he would put an honorable exit to his already stellar boxing career.

Also, another problem now is who will be Pound-for-Pound’s best after Mayweather retires? Will it be Mega Manny Pacquaio? or Joe Calzaghe?

Let’s just hope to see the Money play in the ring once more. What are your comments about this?
