What a way to start September. I just received a mail coming from my web host about a forthcoming invoice on my Web Hosting account. I just though it would be a small $6 bill for the additional domain I ordered on the package. So i checked my Control Panel to double check what the invoice will be all about, and what I saw shocked me. It’s my nightmare coming true. My invoice is $140 dollars for excess Bandwidth! I couldn’t believe what I saw. Before, I would just be happy reaching my monthly 1GB Bandwidth average as I have a 100GB Bandwidth limit. For August, I reached 119GB and for just 8 days past September, my September bandwith usage is 428GB. That is 400x my usual Bandwidth.
The biggest question now is, HOW WILL I PAY MY DUES! I will not be able to pay $140. There are two options that I am weighing right now, 1.) Pay the dues 2.) Not pay the dues and wait for this account to be cancelled. Which is which? I badly need this site. If anybody can offer their help I would gladly accept it. You can spare me some of your loose change by donating though the Paypal button on the right sidebar.
NOTE: I think I found the culprit on the sudden Bandwidth outburst. I think it is the Michael Phelps is Evil Gif that generated that much traffic. I’m not sure how browsers or web hosts treats GIF files. It could be they load the size per frame. Will still have to investigate that one. If the traffic doesn’t change in the next 2 days, I think I’ll be forced to take down the site for the mean time.
Again, I badly need your help, citizens and non-citizens of the blogosphere! A $1-$5 donation will be a big help. I’m on my knees begging you. PLEASE!

[…] for visiting! |m| After having some problems with the bandwidth usage that I had a while back that ballooned to 400GB, I am currently searching for a new webhosting company to handle my site. I was not certain as to […]
I use Bluehost simply for the cost and bandwidth.
but if you want a host that is technically helpful
don’t go with them because I can assure you they will not help in a crunch; or if you get hacked.
how did you get that plenty of bandwidth usage? Maybe some people are hotlinking to your site. check out your cpanel logs and your awstats. it will list the ip addresses of the those consuming your bandwidth.

@ceblogger
yep! the problem was hotlinking… somebody stumbled on the michael PHELPS gif…
eventually many liked it.. posted it in a lot of forums.. and some even used it as a forum signature…
TOTAL B.S!
anyways i have disabled hotlinking and i have deleted that gif…
traffic has been stabilized since then… but my account has been credited $140…
thats 6.7k PHP .. hard-earned money! i have to start from scratch with my earnings then.. too bad…
i agree, it’s total BS! they could have just suspended your account when it went over the limit. or unless you’re earning a lot to cover the extra charge.

they should have.. but that’s not how everything works in my current web host.. they charge you per MB excess of the allowed bandwidth.. whew! though this is just a free package from the company.. hehehe.. the excess traffic was the biggest story of all… one GIF created 420GB of bandwith in 8 days… tsk3
my earnings? just enough to cover the charges.. all of which are from paid-postings..
I will have to double my effort with paid postings and other avenues to recover from the revenue loss.. ahahahahh
Hi, found your site from Ceblogger. It is a very unfortunate incident, I wonder which webhosting you’re at right now.
And I must say, investing a little more like 7USd a month but with 1.5Terrabytes of bandwidth is much much better. If you are considering getting a new webhosting, I can sponsor you up to one year worth of free hosting.
Just another option you may want to consider. Hit my Contact Form just in case.
i got this package free from the company where i work.. that is why the bandwidth limit is just 100GB.. i could have upgraded the package to a higher one so as to get more.. but i was not able to do it on time..
thanks for the great offer, I will try to reconsider it. I will contact you if ever…
