Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.(40-0-1, 30KOs) pounded out a twelve round work-man like unanimous decision over Troy Rowl (25-3-0, 7KOs) in the co-main event at the MGM in Las Vegas, Nevada. Chavez used his height and reach to his advantage to largely out-box Rowland for the majority of the bout. After twelve rounds were complete Chavez was ahead on all three cards comfortably in what was a competitive fight.

Middleweight Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KOs) won a spirited twelve round unanimous decision over WBA World Junior middleweight title Daniel Santos (32-4-1, 23 KOs)moments ago at the MGM Grand on the “Firepower” televised undercard. Foreman boxed well from the outset and scored a stunning knockdown in the middle rounds and sealed it with another knockdown in Round 12. Foreman put the fight out of reach, winning on all three official cards by scores of 116-110, 117-109 and 117-109. With the victory Yuri Foreman captured the WBA junior middleweight title and improved to 28-0, 8 KOs. Yuri Foreman is the new WBA World Junior middleweight champion.

Former world title challenger and “Contender: Season One” star Alfonso Gomez (20-4-2, 10 KOs) upset WBC #7 welterweight Jesus Soto Karass (24-3-3, 16 KOs), winning a six round technical decision. A cut on the right eye by an unintentional headbutt in round three bothered Gomez thereafter. The fight was stopped on Round Six due to the cut. The cards read 58-54, 57-55, 57-55, all for Gomez. Soto-Karass was deducted points for low blows in rounds three and four.

Top Rank’s hot Olympian middleweight prospect Matt Korobov (8-0, 6 KOs) took a one-sided six round unanimous decision over James Winchester (10-3, 3 KOs). Scores were 60-54 on all cards.

Eden Sonsona def Elion Kedem via TKO at :17 in the second round. Sonsona dropped Kedem with a hard left hand in the first round and blitzed Kedem right as the bell sounded in the second as referee Joe Cortez was forced to wave off the bout.

Flyweight Richie Mepranum (15-2-1, 3 KOs) won a six round split decision over Ernie Marquez (9-6-2, 3 KOs). Scores were 58-55, 57-56 Mepranum, 57-56 Marquez.

Lightweight Abner Cotto (5-0, 3 KOs), Miguel’s second cousin, won a six round unanimous decision over Luis Guzman (3-5, 2 KOs). Scores were 59-55, 60-54, 60-54.

Super Welterweight Rodrigo Garcia remained unbeaten with a workmanlike four round unanimous decision over Martin Vierra (5-3-1, 2 KO’s). Garcia (5-0 4 KO’s) landed the more effective and harder punches of the two. All three judges scored the bout 40-36 for Garcia.
