After Manny Pacquiao’s great all-around performance and 12th round knockout win over WBO Welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto, most boxing aficionados has been waiting for an announcement as to who will Manny Pacquiao share the ring and exchange fists with next. Who is Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent?A few names have been mentioned, but there has been no final word yet from the Pacquiao camp or from Top Rank’s Bob Arum. Manny Pacquiao’s nex fight will be set for March 13, 2009.Our first series of Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent before the Miguel Cotto fight did get good hits and comments and now we are back to the drawing board as to who Manny Pacquiao will fight next.

In this series of articles, we are going to list down a boxer or two in each post and we’re going to dissect (so scientific) every boxer compared to Pacquiao’s. If you are reading this post, you can also suggest a boxer that you want us to check. You can check this site every now and then for the next feature or bookmark it.

Manny Pacquiao’s Next Opponent : Joshua Clottey

After the negotations for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Mega Fight was aborted due to a hundred million reasons and excuses, Manny Pacquiao is now set to fight a workhorse, a tough former champion and a tough title contender. On his last outing, Manny Pacquiao made history by winning his 7th Division Championship belt by beating Cotto. Now Manny Pacquiao is set to face the person who Miguel Cotto barely defeated, former IBF Welterweight Champion, Joshua “Grand Master” Clottey.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey may not spark that much interest from you at all since Clottey lost to Miguel Cotto, the man Manny Pacquiao dethroned and destroyed on his last outing, but in my own opinion, he is the most credible opponent currently available on the Welterweight division. A tough former champion and a boxer who has shown skills and class on all his wins and 3 losses. Joshua Clottey is currently ranked the Top 7 Welterweight of the world and he is the most credible boxer worth fighting and watching right now as #2 welterweight Floyd Mayweather’s fight with Pacquiao fell, #3 and #5 Shane Mosley are fighting this January 30, #4 Antonio Margarito is not available and #5 Miguel Cotto was just recently destroyed by Manny Pacquiao. Let the statistics for Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey generate the hype for this fight.

The Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey is the best option there is after the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather did not push through. Though, Manny Pacquiao may be able to cement his mark on history if he pushed for the Manny Pacquiao vs Yuri Foreman, but I would consider the Foreman fight an easy fight compared to Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey. Foreman may be a threat due to his size, but Clottey is a workhorse and has a heart of real warrior. He has good defense and a decent offense. I would also say that Clottey has a very decent chin. He may have been knocked down on round 1 when he fought Miguel Cotto, but he has never lost due to a knock out. That proves his chin and his defense is indeed atop of the others. A win by Pacquiao over Foreman would give him his 8th division world title but skeptics would say that he chose a “soft” chamption, while a win by Pacquiao against Clottey may not bring him any championship, but at least, skeptics could say that he fought the best welterweight available.

His 3 losses were: a DQ loss from Carlos Baldomir, Unanimous Decision loss against Antonio Margartio and a Split Decision loss to Miguel Cotto. Joshua Clottey fought Antonio Margarito with a broken hand since round 3 and he still made it to end of round 12. If he also kept his workrate against Miguel Cotto, he would have won that fight too. The flash knowdown on the first round did make a difference on the scorecard. Does Joshua Clottey have what it takes to beat Manny Pacquiao? YES, only if he keeps the same work rate from rounds 1 to 12. He failed to keep his workrate against Miguel Cotto and that caused him the decision. Joshua Clottey can handle speed as he has handled the same speedy lefty in Zab Judah. I am in no way saying that Judah’s speed matches Pacquiao’s speed, but Judah is the only opponent that Clottey has faced that is somewhere near Manny Pacquiao’s speed.

With Clottey’s chin and stamina, I see this card going to the scorecard and I would give a Unanimous Decision to Manny Pacquiao once again due to Pacquiao’s speed, punch output and power. Clottey will be able to win via Split Decision if he will be able to neutralize Pacquiao’s movement and maintain his defense since, if not, UD for Pacquiao. Anyway, I would love to see this fight as Clottey is more of a threat compared to Yuri Foreman.

Mayweather is using enhanced performing FACE POWDER! A lot of gimmicks for a former #1? A typical mouth-watering champion! Fight Manny and have his blood check after the fight. That if you can’t be knocked out due to severe BabyFACE punches that you’ll earn during the bout.

Well for manny Pacquiao it’s time to move on the drug testing issues will not make the fight happen between Pacquiao and mayweather. I think mayweather is just using the drug testing issue for not fighting pacquiao this so early. I think he’s reserving it for he’s last and final fight before he actaully retire. Now back to pacquiao vs clottey i think it is a good match why? It’s better than the loud mouth malignaggi who is totally mismatch for pacquiao. Though Bradly and Foreman was also a great idea but clottey is a perfect match up for pacquiao. Well wait for the next announcement between pacquiao and clottey match up in coming more days. This is a very great fight this upcoming march 13, 2010. After the cancellation of the fight between pacquaio vs mayweather but then there’s a replacement to the fight which i will watch out and then the question is “who will win in this biggest fight” ..will it be pacquaio or clottey?

The fight coming between Pacquaio vs Clootey its a big challenge for Manny, coz we can’t under stimate of Clootey because hi is and stamina and hieght advantage. So lets wait for the upcoming fight. Best wishes to Manny to fight for our country Philippines. Good luck….

The story of the Pacquiao vs Clottey fight is going to be about whether Clottey’s pressure and counter punching can overcome Pacquiao’s foot speed and quick-handed, sharp-punching attacks. Trying to penetrate Clottey’s guard is like trying to get near one of Pacquiao’s veins with a needle—no easy task, even for someone with the speed and offensive capabilities of Pacquiao. Clottey is fighting for the title and not for the money. At the same time, Pacquiao is not going to be there for Clottey to hit either. Clottey will have his moments along the way. But being light on power, he won’t be able to do enough damage or land a high enough volume of punches to slow Pacquiao to the point of submitting to his pressure game.
