I bought the domain TambayanBox.org cause I wanted to feature Cebu Bands, Cebu Events, Places, Gigs and others. Yes, I was one of the pioneers (I think. Long before most bloggers did it.) who featured these stuffs. I had a vision for the site and I did get a decent following specially from bands. My biggest problem was, the site was hard-coded. Pure HTML and CSS! At that time, I thought using CMSes was not “ethical”. I acted like a wannabe-HTML-CSS-purist! I have managed to get the backup of the site running again for evidence’  sake! Here is the old Tambayanbox.org site.

Due to that, I ended up not being able to easily update the site! So, I tried to create a subdomain, blog.tambayanbox.org (was named [d'MusicBox]* for more than 3 years and was just changed to [TambayanBox]* lately to slowly migrate the site to the original domain but I changed my mind), to house my personal ramblings and all the shiznit using Wordpress.  I ended up loving Wordpress and all my attention was put to the new personal site and added more Wordpress blogs and it spelled death for TambayanBox.org – “The Real Online Tambayan“. DEATH! I had a big vision that also largely failed (maybe because of that cheesy tagline)!

I wanted to continue what I started in TambayanBox in this site (blog.tambayanbox.org) but I think it would look really awkward mixing it will my personal ramblings and I will be left with no place for my personal ramblings if ever. Also, I need a place to house my post-event and pre-event articles for most Cebu Blogger’s Society events and others as I hate putting too much formality in this blog because in the first place, I am not formal (at all!).

So now, I am all set to start TambayanBox.ORG 2.0. This will still feature Cebu Events, Cebu Bands, Cebu Hotels, Restaurants, Malls, Beaches, et. al.

Last July 2 was the pre-launching part of the SM Cebu IMAX Theater. The pre-launching party featured 3Ds! 3 Designers and 3 DJs. I didnt really care much about it as I was there to know more about IMAX and yeah the food!  IMAX Theater in SM Cebu will be officially launched this July 9 and first on the list is James Cameroon’s AVATAR.

The funny thing is, he is like my bio page! Yes, you read it right again. My Author page! Well, the sole reason why I placed my picture there is that most often than not, with my real name (Edcel), I get mistaken as a she rather than a he. I am left with 3 places to post and review for The Wandering Couple blog. Much more news for the King Lebron James blog since it is the NBA Playoffs. Kinakusgan.com will be revamped with new pictures and videos next week. Will also focus on some other blogs. My girls, games, gadgets and tech site, Armed and Loaded, needs no attention at all as it updates on its own. ^_^ Here is a recap of the last Google PR Update that happened and which of my blogs are gained and lost PRs.

I will be buying a .com for The Wandering Couple (branding baby!) and will be buying 2 more domains as I will be setting 2 more niche sites (kaching! kaching!).

Anyway, I am still getting steady traffic as I am still part of the upper 100 of Top Blogs PH but that is a decrease from the usual flow of visitors.

Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc General Assembly

Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. will be having its General Assembly and Election of Board of Trustees on May 1, 2010 at Parkmall, Mandaue City, Cebu.

Cebu Bloggers Society is founded on February 14, 2008 by Mark Monta. As of April 2010, the group has 81 registered members (data provided by Clarence Mongado, Membership Committee, Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc.). The group is registered to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2010.

On the event, CBSI Executive Heads will discuss their reports regarding team plans which were fulfilled, plans which were not realized, and the accomplishments of CBS as a group. Flow will be as follows:

1. Presidential report – Mark Monta
2. Membership Committee report – Guada Esmeña
3. Content Management report – Agnes Jimenez
4. Events Committee report – Sinjin Pineda

After the discussions, the elections for the new set of CBS officers will take place. The election committee is composed of Atty. Ethelbert Ouano and Sir Jerry Gervacio. The incumbent BOT’s have agreed to add “1 year membership in CBS” as one of the requirements in running for CBS-BOT.

After the new officers have been chosen, there will be an oath taking.

It may surprise you, but I do run some creative juices in my veins so I was pumped up to create an entry in collaboration with some friends. The first deadline for the Soul Xpression Street Art Competition by Globe Tattoo entries was set for March 31, 2010 and they moved it for April 05, 2010.

I had to make the design and planned everything plus all the expenses need to make the design. Most of my friends are either students or bums, thus we were not able to shoulder the expenses so we had to make a solicitation for the funds. We had to ask local businessmen, friends and Barangay officials to help us shoulder the expenses and they willingly helped.

We had to rush everything since the supposed Soul Xpression Street Art Competition by Globe Tattoo deadline was fast approaching. We had to do everything under the scorching heat. After 1 day of work, we were sun burnt and had blisters in our hands due to the effort placed on finishing the work before the deadline.

When I was about to submit our entry, I found out that the deadline for the Soul Xpression Globe Tattoo Street Art Competition is moved (again!). And guess what? It was not moved 1 week, 2 weeks or even 3 weeks after the supposed April 5 deadline. The new DEADLINE FOR THE  Soul Xpression Globe Tattoo Street Art Competition is JUNE 30, 2010. YES THAT IS JUNE EFFIN’ 30, 2010! That is roughly 90 days from the original deadline!

Is Globe Tattoo really after showcasing the talents’ if each artists’ or group or are they after commercialization of their brand hoping that a number of street pieces will help market their brand? After all the effort that we gave to meet the deadline, all the hassle we caused local businessmen, friends and Barangay officials to help us shoulder the expenses and after all the blisters we got for finishing our piece, this is what Globe Tattoo has to give back? We would understand if you move it 2-3 weeks since there were a small number of entries for the Open Category, but you did not have to move it 90 effin’ days after the last deadline!

If there are only a small number of entries for the contest, there maybe something wrong somewhere. It could be how the company marketed the contest or it could be the prizes! Moving the deadline may solve some problems, but not all! If someone is not interested to join a contest, moving the deadline will not make him more interested but increasing the prize for the winners will! Come to think of it GLOBE! You’ve been in the business for a long time so you should know what could be wrong! It’s definitely not the deadline!

Thank you for that Globe Tattoo! Thank you! You have been a big help to the youth! You believe in “ONE YOUTH” ei? Please do us a favor and stick a totem pole down your arses! We were right all along that contests run by some big corporate scumbags would do us nothing good! Thank you for that Globe Tattoo!

A person from Pinoyparazzi has mentioned that this the 1st of 20 scandal photos by Angelica Panganiban and Derek Ramsay.  Let’s wait for the 19 other scandal photos by Derek Ramsay and Angelica Panganiban.

In my opinion, the pic just shows 2 people having fun. It happens to anybody. As Derek has mentioned, the picture was taken by a friend 4 years ago. Since they are celebrities, the entertainment tabloid P’noy Parazzi is just using the photo scandal to bank on it. Plain old showbiz. The tabloid issue could be seling like lotto tickets now due to this. People running the tabloid could be laughing now due to the increase of sales of the tabloid. The photo scandal by Derek Ramsay and Angelica Panganiban just shows a grown man and woman having fun, no fuzz. This photo scandal should have more buzz if the people on the picture were minors.

There was a database problem on the database server I was in and it took my host, 1&1 Internet, almost 48 hours to fix the problem. That was not fun at all. I was on the verge of reaching another payout for Google Adsense and that downtime cost me a lot of traffic and clicks!

Lesson learned. I will now make a backup of the database and another copy of the config file so that I can easily swap the config file to call the backup database if the database server goes down again.

On a lighter note, Survivor 20:  Heroes vs Villains Episode 5 will air tomorrow. I am excited! Hopefully, the site does not go down again.

With the 2010 Philippine elections drawing near, who is worth your vote? Will you vote for the candidate with the most antics, best fake smile and pseudo promises or are you conscientiously looking into the qualifications of each candidate?

Here are some pointers that I am keeping in my mind and I hope you can consider these too.

1) Avoid the extremists – An extremist politician will say and promise anything just to entice people to vote for him/her. Want an example? Here is one: “Tatapusin ko ang Kahirapan” (I will end poverty). If I hear this line from a candidate, I am going to stick my middle finger down his cheating arse. Once elected, the candidate will stay in office for 6 years and in that span of time, YOU CAN NEVER END POVERTY! Poverty exist in powerhouse countries such as the UK and the US and a politician from the Philippines will end poverty?

2) Avoid the Big Spenders - Well, it is a given the politicians spend money to fuel their campaigns, but spending too much is just too dodgy. You badly need to win the seat to help the poor and what nots, so you spend much more money than what you are expected to get in 6 years in office? That’s just plain dodgy. Are these politicians considering spending in the campaign period an investment and are they expecting a return of investment plus more profit once elected? Politics is not business.

3) Welcome the Vote Buyers – Yes you read it right! Welcome the Vote Buyers! Let me explain this. Let’s be practical and non-hypocritical. If someone tries to buy your vote, willingly accept the money, but guess what? DON’T VOTE FOR THAT POLITICIAN! Welcome the money from vote buyers and do that politician another favor, DON’T VOTE FOR HIM/HER and he will never have any clue!

4) Get to know your candidate – A candidate may say he has done this and has supported this but in the contrary, he didn’t. It always helps to get to know your candidate. Check his profile, what he believes in and what he lives for. It would make selecting the right candidate a little easier. To have a good grasp on the candidates running for the top offices in the Philippines, you can visit Political Arena. They have setup a profile for each candidate and you may even have the chance to chat with some of the candidates during the live chat sessions set up for each of them.

5) Avoid surveys - surveys may show who’s the “guy”, but it will never show what character that leading candidate has. Surveys may show you who majority of the respondents will vote for, but the reason that they may be voting that candidate may not apply to what you are looking for and what you believe in.

You  may think that Philippine politics is hopeless and you will opt not to vote this coming elections. I will respect that. Just remember this, your vote could make a difference for a better future. If you do vote, please do it sincerely. Stroke the marker to the ballot and cast your vote by heart. You may care less but your vote will affect you and your family too.

The MEGA FIGHT Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.is the best thing that will happen to boxing. Who would have thought that they would reach to a fight date as early as March 13? Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr is a must-see as this fight could really go either way. I have Pacquiao edging Mayweather with his power but Mayweather also edges Pacquiao with his defense. Mayweather has a clear reach advantage and he can use this to jab-and-run against Manny Pacquiao, which he normally does in every fight that is why some Mayweather haters fondly call him “Gayweather” because he rarely engages and is comfortable just boxing his way to a win. He just engages when he sees that the opponent is tired and exhausted. That I should say is a very smart way to win but that does not excite the people at all. Pacquiao had trouble with Miguel Cotto’s jab in the 1st and 2nd round of their encounter but Cotto failed to keep up the phase. Floyd Mayweather may follow the same strategy and jab all the way and potshot every now and then until the 7th or 8th round and he can make his assault after that.

While Mayweather guns and runs, Pacquiao can also utilize his speed to chase down and take down Mayweather. This will not be a very easy fight for Pacquiao. If Freddie Roach will not be able to design a glameplan on how to neutralize Mayweather’s offense while breaking his defense, I can see Pacquiao lose via Unanimous Decision against Mayweather. Oh yes Pacquiao has all the speed and power to send out 20 power punches in 10 seconds but will any of it penetrate and hit Mayweather? I doubt it will. Floyd Mayweather is know for his superior defense. He is nicknamed Pretty Boy for the simplest reason as not any of his fights has caused that much damage to him or his body due to his style of fighting. The only effective way to pin down Mayweather is to put him the corner but that would not be a very easy task as Mayweather has mastered the right way of escaping the ropes while potshotting the opponent, remember what happened to Ricky Hatton? Ricky Hatton tried to pin down Mayweather and he failed shamlessly! Is Freddie Roach stupid enough to design the same scheme for Pacquiao? By the way, this will not just be Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr as this also a fight of strategies by Freddie Roach and Floyd Mayweather Sr. Who will design the best strategy to beat the opponent?

I see this fight going to the scorecard and it could still go either way. Mayweather is too smart to engage with Pacquiao as he knows what Pacquiao can do to him. If Mayweather jabs and run, this MEGA Fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao will be the most boring fight Pacquiao as been in and it will be a Unanimous Decision win for Floyd Mayweather. If Pacquiao can break through Mayweather’s defense with his punches and scoring on them cleanly while avoiding Floyd’s counterpunches to avoid getting knocked out, Manny Pacquiao for a Split Decision. If Mayweather wins, he will be as much as a loud mouth as ever and if Pacquiao wins, then we can shut Mayweather’s mouth!
