To quote:
Chaos. Anarchy. Rebellion. These are words that immediately come to mind as soon as the word “punk” is mentioned. Lester Bangs (whom most people credit for naming the genre) probably didn’t have The Sex Pistols in mind when he first used the term. In fact, in his very first published review for Rolling Stone, he used the term “punk” to refer to the MC5, a psychedelic band. In essence, he meant the lifestyle and not the music.
But eventually, the name stuck. So we have all these bands from the 70’s and 80’s like the aforementioned Sex Pistols and The Clash. It was called “punk rock” and the rock gods said, “it is good”. I don’t know if it was all just a trend, but to capitalize on the ordinarily-derogatory term “punk” and assumed the lifestyle of… well… a punk. Screaming out profanity and stepping on authority, punk rock took over the airwaves.
But here’s an interesting concept that people never, ever associate with punk rock – love.
I’m not talking about crappy Newfound Glory and their covers of vomit-inducing tearjerkers like “My Heart Will Go On”.
Take the Ramones. The Ramones spelled out “youth” in bold letters everywhere they went. With songs like “Rock ‘n’
Roll High School ” and “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up”, the punk rock pioneers carved out a niche in which all frustrated teenagers across the world could seek refuge. And, of course, what’s adolescence without love? To address the issue, the Ramones came up with songs like “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” and “What I Like About You”, classics that hopeless romantics can relate to, without compromising, of course, the punk rock image. And then, there was The Clash, perhaps the greatest punk band to have ever walked the earth in the sense that unlike other punk bands of the time who thrived on a dull, repetitive formula, they dared to be different (which, after all, is what punk rock is all about). The love song “Should I Stay or Should I Go” remains to be among their greatest hits.

NU107 shutting down?
I’ve been hearing hearsays that the ROCK station that everybody [not everybody.. most people I think!] so love and leech music from is going to shut down their operations 3 months from now.
There has not been any confirmation though but if this is true it will be heartbreaking for most of the people who has been listening to the station for years now [specially ME!]. Some online buddies are still confirming with their comrades close to the people working in the station whether or not the rumors are true.
I’m so gonna miss Trish, Sophie and Dylan’s voice [sighs deeply], so as Francis Brew and even Papa Domz with his reggae “show” every Thursday nights.
It’s a disheartening news for most of us but let us just hope for the best for the station that we so most LOVE!

Marie Digby
I think I’m freakin’ in LOVE!. LOL! I just stumbled upon her videos in YouTube as I was lurking in a local online forum days back and voila! somebody gave a link to her videos and man I saw angels after seeing her face and hearing her sing [well her voice is second..LOL!]
She has a cover of Rihanna’s infamous song Umbrella [yeah that funny sounding ela ela ela song!], Britney’s Gimme More [Marie Digby’s Cover made Britney Sound like an Amateur and a stripper.. LOL!] and Linkin Park’s What I’ve done [this is one of the songs where he plays the keyboard instead of the guitar], and i tell you, this girl can SING, she’s even better at playing the guitars compare to my stiff fingers.
She normally records the videos at home so aside from hearing her sing you’ll get to see her sing in her living room, dining room and even her bedroom [ c’mon pervs! work your brains out!]. In her Umbrella Cover, watch closely at the start of the video [you might miss it!], notice her biting her guitar pick that made me drool all over my pants! [exaggerating!] See for yourself and of course thank me for introducing her to you [Paypal Donations accepted… LOL!]
She’s HEAVEN SENT! I’ll spend half of my savings account just to be with her.[LOL!] . Well I’m seriously hooked into listening to her now matter how pop she may sound and how mushy her song could get, I know you’ll be hooked too..
Digby, whose mother is Japanese and father is Irish-American, is the eldest of three siblings including her sisters; Naomi (born December 12, 1985) and Erina (born August 8, 1987). She began writing songs in high school in LA and after graduating, spent one year at the University of California, Berkeley, living in Unit 2 Residence Hall before leaving college to concentrate on music full-time.[3] She came into the public light in 2004 after winning the Pantene Pro-Voice Music Competition with her autobiographical song “Miss Invisible”.
Go to go! Have to watch more of her videos!LOL!
RAMONITOS recording new album?
The name may sound a bit funny [sounds like a small RAMONE.. like PLATITO for a small PLATE.. LOL], but once you hear them play, you’ll forget about that name and may reminisce another band, The RAMONES.
That ain’t no false pretense, I’m speaking in behalf of every Ramones fan [nah! just kidding, maybe one or two or three local Ramone fan.. LOL!]. Well here’s a piece of information from their myspace page..
Started around late 1999 or early 2000(can’t really remember) as an unofficial side project with Johnny(abnrmls, astroboy) on guitar & vocals, Fern(mosquito killers, who’s next, brownbeat allstars) on bass & vocals, and Renmin( agaw agimat) on drums… Remugsfuel(happy days) jammed on one of the show and few jam sessions… played on and off shows during that year and had to put it to rest coz all the members were busy doing their own thing with their bands…not much going on with his band Astroboy coz they were all busy(whatever that means), Johnny decided to re-live Ramonitos few months ago… they have a new line up with FaroSol on bass/vocals and Allen(happy days)on drums. They still maintain the Pop Punk rock& roll sound and attitude and you could definitely think of one band when you get to hear their music……….R.A.M.O.N.E.S The band is currently making songs and hopefully hit the studio and come up with their first record…it’s time to bring back what pop punk rock is all about….simple & fun….check them out.
Just got an information that from an online forum, that they are indeed recording an album right now [hope it’s true]. If you have time, you can check them out in some local gigs in the Metro. Last time I saw them play was on SRA’s 13th Anniversary[did not really spend too much time there as I had other appointments.. LOL!]
Check them out or their myspace page..
Across the Universe .. to Polaris
On February 4th, 2008, NASA will transmit the Beatles tune “Across the Universe” to the star Polaris, 431 lights years distant, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the song’s recording and to celebrate NASA’s 50th anniversary. NASA’s Deep Space Network, an array of large antennas used to communicate with spacecraft beyond low Earth orbit, will beam the song out at 6:00 p.m. CST (7:00 p.m. EST). This observation has the full support of Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono and the Apple record label. The lyrics are printed below.
The song, “Across the Universe” was recorded forty years ago on February 4, 1968 by the Beatles. John Lennon wrote the song in 1967 after hearing his wife-at-the-time Cynthia, carrying on about some meaningless subject. After she went to sleep, Lennon went downstairs and created the song, then went to bed. The song was influenced by the Beatles interest in TM, or transcendental meditation. This is where the words “Jai guru deva om” in the song were inspired. It loosely means “greetings to the guru” followed by the meditative “om”. In a 1979 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Lennon said “Across the Universe” was the best, pure poetry he had ever written. The song was recorded February 4, 1968 while the Beatles were in the EMI studios at Abbey Road between February 3rd and February 11th. “Lady Madonna” was also recorded during this time. The song “Across the Universe” appears on the Beatles “Let It Be” album released May 8th, 1970.
